ok, so excluding a few friends i plan on calling today i think i’ve told everyone in my family and people who are close to me, so now i might as well tell the world.
this past weekend, saturday june 22nd to be exact, i asked amy hitz to be my wife. fortunately for me, she said yes. she was very happy and due to my stealthy actions these past few months i was able to surprise her. i can honestly say she had no clue at all, and if you know amy you know her uncanny ability to guess something before it happens.
we spent the whole weekend doing stuff together, trying to stay out of the heat. she wasn’t feeling that good but we managed to get out and do a few things, including looking at a bike she wanted to buy. we went out to a nice dinner together and then when we got home i popped the question. i was waiting for that perfect moment but the longer i waited the more i realized i just wanted to ask her. i wanted to see her face light up, i wanted to see her smile and feel the joy in her heart. so instead of waiting i just asked, i got down on one knee and asked. she smiled, we hugged, we kissed, she cried … the whole nine yards.
so what were her first words you ask? “are you serious” … hehhehehe … i guess i did a good job being stealthy. of course i was serious she soon learned when i opened the ring case.
i presented her with a diamond and sapphire setting in a platinum band. there were two sapphire’s in the ring, one representing her and one representing me. both of our birthstone’s are sapphires in case you were wondering. it was clean and simple yet still elegant and beautiful which tells you a wealth of information about her and i.
we don’t have an official date yet but are shooting for spring of 2003. yes we know, that’s pretty close. she is applying to p.a. school and would start in june so we are trying to get it in before that. anyone else who’s been to p.a. school can attest to how much time you don’t have for a life outside of school, let along plan a wedding. so it’s either now or 3 years from now.
her family and my family were very happy and happy for us. i’ll keep you all updated as things progress and move along. already we are running around trying to find a hall and church, the two hardest things to get on short notice.
as an aside, before we went over to her parents house on sunday we worked out and then went to pick up her new trek 7700 hybrid. it’s a slick machine with front and seat shocks, xt shifters and derailleur’s, and a plethora of other cool doodads. i know she’s going to love it. finally a bike she can ride off-road with me and feel like she’s in control.
