well i’m into week 5 of body for life. i’ve had my share of setbacks this past week. i was able to get all of my workouts in as planned but my meals weren’t perfect on a few days when they should have been. i chalk it up to the holidays but at the same time i knew better on a few of them. i have no one to blame but myself at the end of the week when my goals aren’t met. i am doing great so far today and was actually looking forward to getting back into my workout / work / eat right routine. it’s just a lot easier being in a routine rather than traveling, getting up later, trying to get meals in, etc etc.

we had a killer upper body workout yesterday. i reset my program with all new exercises, most of which i had never done before in my life. i spent a bunch of time at abc body building reading through all of the exercises they had and trying to visualize them. i picked out 4 new exercises in each body part so next time i change up i will already have some to change to. amy liked the exercises as well. a few of them were odd and i still can’t find any really good isolating back exercises but the ones i have i like. i highly recommend checking out that website for exercise information.

like i said, my nutrition hasn’t been perfect the past week. one thing i have been pretty diligent about though is getting in my efa’s. i have the udo’s preferred blend oil and i also picked up some tablets for traveling. i usually take 3-4 at a time when i take them. i figured they’re better then not taking anything and the more i read fats that heal fats that kill, the more i want to make sure i’m getting enough efa’s in my diet.

adu and elliot

amy and i broke down yesterday and picked up some siberian hamsters. her friend steve had a few that recently had a litter he was trying to get rid of. after seeing her ogle over them for what seemed like hours we decided to get some. i do admit that they are very adorable. we have one female that is light gray (elliot) and one male that is dark gray to black (adu). we bought a 10 gallon fish tank and a bunch of other stuff for them to play with. they’re still getting acclimated to my house but i think they should be ready to start playing and goofing more. so now we have 15 kids (13 plants and 2 hamsters) in the house. speaking of which, i came really close to buying another cool plant this weekend. home depot is the work of the devil, i know it!

christmas gifts

i forgot to post about my christmas gifts, what was i thinking? this year i got some really nice gifts from amy. i received the all elusive power tools that all men need for a new house. she picked me up a craftsman 6 amp corded drill and an accessory pack that has drill bits, screw driver bits, hole cutting bits, and other attachments. everything i need to wreak havoc on my walls at home. amy also surprised me quite a bit with a new bag for work. this isn’t just any bag, it’s a timbuk2 bag. you may have read my post from september when i mentioned that i wanted one and how nice they were. this bag is the sweetest bag i have ever owned. it is hand crafted, has a lifetime warranty and is absolutely beautiful. i wanted the one with red side panels and gray in the middle with the logo in yellow. i also wanted almost all of the custom features like the deluxe pocket, back file pocket, mesh pocket, and bike set. this thing is loaded and looks sweet to boot. i’m now styling and can finally toss my 10 old bags in the trash heap, or at least into the basement. thanks amy, i love it …

one of my other favorite gifts was a memory box that my mom put together. it had a really nice photo album with pictures from all throughout my life. it also contained different objects that my mom had accumulated life like some clothes, letters, really bad pottery ;), drawings, etc. it was really cool looking through it and having amy see it as well. it’s something we’ll enjoy for years to come.

i also received a few gift certificates, some teddy bear stuff (yes i collect em), a travel hot/cold cooler, and amy and i received some of our dishes, the matching tea pot, and a small wall hanging quilt.

home improvements

we started the latest home improvement project of painting our family room. we’re planning on painting one room per month till we get married. that should make the house a lot more livable not only for me but amy as well. it also needed it really bad since the walls were horrid and hadn’t been painting since this place was built. they were all white and had that rough builders paint texture that feels like sandpaper. now they’re actually taking on some color and each room has a unique personality as it should.

christmas came and went and i survived, we all do though. the only question is did your lifestyle change survive? i can tell you with the utmost authority that mine did!!! i ate as planned, with the free meals, and worked out as planned. i didn’t over indulge but i still ate well and had good food and best of all, we got up this morning and worked out. i feel great today and i’m actually happy that i have a week and a half ahead of me of solid dedication before my next free day. i look at it as a challenge as well as an opportunity. not only is it a test of my willpower and determination but it will give me 9 solid days of fitness to burn this far off my body.

i ate good today, though i didn’t get all of my meals on. mostly due to sleeping in and painting all day more than anything else. i’ve been trying to get more vegetables and my udo’s efa oil blend in. i feel better taking that oil and really don’t mind the taste.

tomorrow i’m getting up early to do my lower body workout. basically on xmas day i didn’t workout so my schedule is shifted one day till sunday when it will catch up with week 5 and i will be back on track again. i’m still not sure if i’m going to weigh in on saturday, i may just wait another week to really push myself.

so far so good this week. i haven’t eaten great this week but i’ve rocked in the workouts. amy and i both have gotten up early and worked out while in michigan and this morning as well. we’ve indulged in a few small things but nothing big at all. tonight is xmas eve dinner so that will obviously be a free meal. my goal for the week is to only lose 1 pound and hit every single workout. while the meals may not be perfect every single workout will be.

today was upper body day. i really focused on flexing my chest and tightening my abs in each and every workout in an attempt to strengthen my torso. i actually felt a small burn in my chest which i hadn’t in a long while. what was weird though is that i wasn’t able to lift as much as i usually do on the bench press. we’ll see tomorrow if i’m sore there or not. i’m insanely sore in my hamstrings right now, which is great. those dead lifts are killer when you hadn’t done them in a while.
