new lbw (lower body workout)

health & fitness no comments »

well i put together a new routine for my lower body thanks to the examples over at abc body building. here it is:

quads
reverse hack squat — 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
bulgarian squat — 12
hamstrings
hamstring leg press — 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
lying leg curl — 12
calves
squat raises — 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
standing calf raise (w/smith machine) — 12
abdominals
seated leg tucks — 12, 10, 8, 6, 12
bent knee bench leg raises — 12

i want to see if i can get over this plateau i’m in right now. i was looking back in my bfl success journal at my old routines and while i saw a pretty big initial spike in my lbw’s i have recently seen no gains. i think this new routine will help ignite my legs and will add to their size and power.

i’ve been pretty busy the past few days so i’ve been unable to post my progress from last week. needless to say it wasn’t what i expected or wanted. on the scale i was only down 1.5 pounds. this weekend i plan on measuring myself to see how many inches i’ve lost. i reassert to myself that the scale isn’t the guide to progress, it is merely a single measurement that indicates my progress down the path of better health and fitness.

i know where i’ve been messing up and have taken actions to address them. typically my late evening meals, usually meal 5 and 6, tend to be a bit to large. during the day i take size and portions into mind but often times those meals get a bit larger and sometimes aren’t on program at all. i have addressed that meal problem this week by making sure that these meals aren’t as large. my other meal problem from last week was that some of my lunches were eaten out. i thought they were “reasonably” healthy, but reasonably isn’t good enough. so going forward i will go back to eating in the cafeteria as well as starting to make meals at home and bring them in.

my workouts last week were great but i need to change them up. i spoke of that before but haven’t had the time to implement these changes. needless to say that is one of my goals for this evening. i have to continue eliciting changes via exercise. my workouts are thus far the pillar of my program and will remain so going forward.

i’ll see how these changes effect this week and the remaining 2.5 weeks in this challenge. i am well on my way to my 40 pound loss and other goals for this challenge but i need to make some serious progress in the remaining time period. wish me luck!

astronauts and shuttle columbia lost

astronomy & space no comments »

i’m sure all of you have seen the news coverage today about the sts-107 shuttle mission. we lost some amazing astronauts and a significant blow was made to the space program this morning. i really hope we can learn from this disaster and still continue with our program of space exploration. here are a few of the better sites with coverage on this disaster.

i found out what happened this morning after amy checked the news. needless to say i was shocked and at first thought that she was joking or it was a mistake. when i went to cnn and read their article it finally hit me. needless to say i am still shocked and angry. our desire to explore space is far beyond our funding needs. the u.s. government has never funded nasa as well as it should have. we should be closer to replacing our aging space shuttle than we are, yet we’re still about 10 years off according to earliest estimates. this disaster could hurt or help speed that replacement. only time will tell … one thing is certain though, our nation is again in a state of mourning. it’s a sad day …

the astronaut’s that were lost today were michael anderson, david brown, kalpana chawla, laurel clark, rick husband, william mccool, and ilan ramon.
