i got an email about this yesterday from larry and then i saw that martie posted about it. i now feel obligated as a blogger to post about our first time traveler. i read the announcement a few times and a few things that i noticed that were interesting:

• yahoo placed this announcement in their “entertainment news & gossip” section.
• did you notice how reuters and the associated press missed this news?
• if someone really had the cure for aids do you really think they would use that as a bargaining chip? come one, what human who had that knowledge wouldn’t share that with their fellow humans knowing all of the devastating that it has caused to mankind?

do i think this person is a time traveler, no. do i really care or give it much thought, no. do i think that authorities should give him the opportunity to prove it, why not? what do we really have to lose? yea, it might be giving the crazy a bit of press but come on, the potential upside far outweighs the downside. in then end though, this news item reads like a new article from the onion.

well i finished my first movabletype plugin. it’s actually very simple but highly useful for my site in particular. in case you hadn’t noticed, 100% of the text on my website is lower case. i usually type it that way on purpose but sometimes i even miss some characters here and there. i originally thought i was going to be able to use the lower_case global filters in mt but it turns out that these tags also lowercase urls, javascript calls, and pretty much all text; which as most of you know is a bad thing for some case sensitive things.


anyhow, this plugin is called change text case. to install this plugin you can download it from the link i just gave you, drop it in your mt plugins directory, and remove the .txt extension from the file.


to start using the global filter add text_lower_case=”1″ or text_upper_case=”1″ to any of your mt tags. that’s it, you should see the results when you rebuild those pages. i put a small blurb explaining how it works in the comment section of the plugin. download and enjoy.

my brothers birthday is today, he’s 31 years old (11315 days, 271560 hours, 16293600 minutes, etc.) … happy birthday bro!!! feel any younger? hehhehehe


it’s weird on days like today when he’s in one state and i’m in another. we don’t get to see each other as much as we would like, but we do as often as life allows. he’s my best man in my wedding, the little voice in my ear, the person who’s been through more with me than anyone else, 28 years of hell … just kidding bro. from building forts in the woods, climbing trees, a few fights, his wedding, to him trying to dunk me in the pool. we’ve been though a lot of good times and bad. i just wanted to wish him a happy and fun birthday with many more to come, even if he is over the hill … love ya bro.

around midnight yesterday evening a meteoroid (approximately 1 or 2 meters wide) approached earth and collided with earths atmosphere. this newly formed meteor caused a bright flash of light visible in the illinois, indiana, and michigan area. it then exploded into some 500 meteorite fragments and scattered over a 10 kilometer area in the southern suburbs of chicago. here are a few local news links covering the topic:

it’s pretty amazing that this didn’t cause more damage than it did. i wonder how long until someone tries selling one of the fragments on ebay?
