big progress

we got up this morning for our free day and did a week one weigh in. i like to measure my weight after the first week to make sure that i’m doing well. this morning i was pleasantly surprised to have already dropped 11.5 pounds! yep, you read that right, eleven and a half pounds … i know most of it is water but that’s a killer weight loss no matter how you cut it. the week of eating and exercising perfectly paid off. amy lost a lot as well, she lost 4.5 pounds over the last week. in the past she has worked out and ate well but this was her first week following body for life to the letter. i am ecstatic with the results that she is seeing on the program and we’re more motivated than ever.

amy and i have survived the first week back on body for life. tomorrow morning we will check our stats and i will update the website. i feel really good this week and very positive about this change. it is amazing how different it is having amy doing it 100% with me. i was having trouble before getting going and keeping it going but this time it’s different. we ate perfect all week, made some really good new meals, and got up each day and worked out (except this morning, we’re going tonight).

i’m not saying it was easy by any means, because it wasn’t. it was hard getting up, but once we were up it felt great to work out. we were also both extremely sore after our first set of workouts but that subsided throughout the week. never use that as an excuse to not work out, it helps to workout when sore actually. i still don’t feel like i am 100% in my cardio, i get tired faster then i did in the past. i guess it’s to be expected though given that i haven’t worked out in a while. the human body deteriorates pretty quickly when it isn’t pushed and challenged.

i’m sure i’ll get some more comments this time around regarding why we’re not doing atkins. my answer is actually pretty simple, it’s in the form of a few questions. do you solve the gas mileage problem with a car by removing the comfortable seats? do you truly expect and want to give up the enjoyment of foods the rest of your life? sure, you can splurge on a few days, and eat everything under the sun, but consistently depriving ones self of everything isn’t the best way to lose weight and keep it off. it’s just setting yourself up for failure in the long run. following a consistent, repeatable, sensible, proven nutritional plan and joining that with an easy to follow exercise plan makes so much more sense. why would you stop enjoying food and instead deprive yourself of all or most carbs when eating in moderation and planning is all it really takes? it just makes sense.

amy and i will be starting a body for life challenge tomorrow. we want to get on track with our health and fitness and are using this as a jumping board. sometimes making small changes can have a huge effect but with fitness drastic changes are often needed to elicit a change. we’ve noticed our diet changing over time and decided now was the time to make the changes needed. it won’t be easy, but together we can do it.

i’m planning on using my blog again to help remain accountable for my progress and changes. i’ll update the site with my starting point, goals, progress, and information about the program.

challenge update

as you may have noticed i haven’t been updating regarding my last body for life challenge. i fell off the wagon, not hard, just took a small tumble. no i didn’t gain anything back, i just had trouble putting it all together. i was either working out and not eating perfect or eating perfect and not getting my workouts in. i want to start another challenge before the end of the year but i want to have 1-2 solid weeks under my belt first. i started back hardcore today trying to do both the workouts and the nutrition.

a few other things amy and i are changing regarding nutrition … we’re taking a small daily aspirin, drinking more wine, eating more fish, trying to get more vegetables in, and eating more foods in moderation. sometimes we’d have something bad and i’d overindulge, obviously a no no, even on a freeday. anyhow, that’s a thing of the past now.

i really have some important goals i want to achieve that i’m kicking myself all the time over. i hate pushing the dates back over and over again. i don’t want to enter my 30th birthday or the year 2004 for that matter, with my current body. i am going to change, i am going to illicit a dramatic change in my body. i’m going to do it, starting today!

i had a decent week last week but far from perfect. things aren’t coming together this challenge like they did in the past. i’m having trouble getting both my workouts and my meals in synch, mostly the meals though. i think i may have to try something a bit different to shock my system here soon. i’ve been thinking of dumping coffee during the week like bski did, i wouldn’t want to be a copy cat though. i’ve also been thinking about trying to get up every morning for a few weeks and ride for an hour or so on my bike. get some serious cardio in and then throw in a few light weight workouts for good measure as well. i’ll think on it a little more and try to get back in line here.

i’ve been drinking myoplex and udo’s for the first meals of the day pretty consistently. i still think that udo’s helps me a ton. i really notice differences in my skin, sweat, and hair when i stop taking it for a few weeks. i haven’t been able to do six meals in a while, i usually end up eating five maximum.

things i’m going to work on this week … getting caught up with my sleep, getting consistent with my eating, and rocking in the workouts.

still trying to get this train moving folks.

things are going ok so far. last week work struck on thursday night which caused me to miss my friday workout. that really sucked as i had already missed my thursday workout. needless to say that meant 4 days in a row without working out (thursday, friday, saturday, and sunday). we got our arses out of bed this morning though and had a great cardio workout. i wanted to do spin but i’m tired of the instructor. she does the same routine every single monday and it’s rather annoying. we’re hoping to get a spin class in later this week. i’m in need of some cycling since i don’t have a bike anymore (see older post for details). anyhow, i wrote this weekend off and started new this week. i had made about 8-9 pounds of progress up till last thursday so i don’t plan on throwing that away.

my goals for this week are to break a few physical barriers in my weights and to up the exertion in my cardio workouts. i’m looking for a whole new level of exhaustion. we’re talking about complete and absolute fatigue where i’m forced to nearly stop to catch my breath. kicking my own ass and taking names!

my workouts are going well, i lost another 3 pounds this week. my workouts have been going great and my eating is pretty much perfect as well. a few days weren’t perfect but darn close. this week i’m planning on getting some additional evening bike riding in for a few extra calories. i’m also looking for a perfect workout week. last week amy and i skipped one workout but i can honestly tell you it worked wonders. i’ve felt a lot more rested since then and as such has some great workouts.
