the friday five

this weeks friday five was coincidental since amy and i were picking our wedding music this past week and weekend. anyhow, here’s my answers:

what was the first band you saw in concert? — my brother and i took a few friends to see john secada, it was pretty cool.
who is your favorite artist/band now? — i’d have to answer prodigy though i am a bit bummed that they haven’t released anything in a few years.
what’s your favorite song? — i don’t have a particular song that i love really. sorry to be a lame duck on this one.
if you could play any instrument, what would it be? — piano all the way, always wanted to. maybe some day amy and i will take lessons or learn together.
if you could meet any musical icon (past or present), who would it be and why? — i’d probably want to meet frank sinatra or miles davis. they’ve influenced an amazing number of artists and people.

i really can’t wait till we get our ipods soon. i miss not listening to music at work.

sexier (female)…pamela anderson or jennifer garner? — jennifer, she’s less fake and more down to earth.
sexier (male)…ben affleck or matt damon? — umm, i’m going to skip this one.
the better piano player…billy joel or elton john? — elton of course, he should have the title piano man not billy.
funnier…david letterman or craig kilborn? — is neither an option? if i had to choose though i would have to say letterman.
the dumber cartoon cat…stimpy (of *ren & stimpy*) or tom (of *tom & jerry*)? — never watched the first sorry. so i guess i’d have to answer tom.
a better news anchor…tom brokaw or dan rather? — i’m partial to nbc so i’d go with tom brokaw.
a better tv chef…emeril lagasse or jacques pepin? — emeril and who?
the trashier talk show host…maury povich or jerry springer? — i’d have to say both.
the worse fast food burger joint…mcdonald’s or burger king? — i used to work at bk and it wasn’t that bad. plus there is the fact that mcd’s burgers aren’t that tasty.
thought-provoking question of the week: only a handful of u.s. presidents have been considered to be *great* of the following two, which one do you consider to be greater…franklin d. roosevelt or abraham lincoln? why? — lincoln, he’s one of the fathers of our great nation. like all new nations, we were the most vulnerable to negative and outside influences at our inception. it takes a great leader to lead a growing nation and succeed. it’s far easier for someone like roosevelt to take the reigns later in our history. i’m not saying he wasn’t a great man, just not at the level of lincoln

shorter questions than the friday five, but i’ll give it a whirl more often.

take a gander at my friday five.

how many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life? — utica house 1 & 2, utica apartment, ann arbor house, ann arbor apartment, texas apartment 1 & 2, chicago apartment (1, 2, 3, 4), and my glendale heights house. that means i’ve lived in 4 houses and 8 apartments, yikes !!!
which was your favorite and why? — my current house since it’s the first home that i bought and it’s the home i’m sharing with my amy.
do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? why? — the act of moving is very stressful because you have to coordinate so many different things. the act of changing location is exciting since you meet new people, see new things, and often times experience new cultures.
what’s more important, location or price? — location, location, location !!!
what features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)? — my dream house has 4 bedrooms, at least 1 acre of property, has plenty of trees, clear non light polluting skies, has room for a pool in the future, and has lots of room to entertain people.

i never really thought about all of the houses that i’ve lived in. it’s actually pretty weird …

only one day late this week, here’s the friday five.

what is your favorite type of literature to read (magazine, newspaper, novels, nonfiction, poetry, etc.)? — just about everyone knows this has to be science fiction. i’d also say that science literature, in particular astronomy related, ranks up there in a very close second.
what is your favorite novel? — it’s really hard for me to think of a favorite novel in particular but i do have a favorite series of books. the foundation series by isaac asimov.
do you have a favorite poem? (share it!) — not off the top of my head, i’m more into inspirational quotes actually. if you refresh any of the pages on my website you should see a new quote at the top. these are from a small library of quotes i’ve collected over time that moved me in some way when i read them.
what is one thing you’ve always wanted to read, or wish you had more time to read? — a book by ayn rand called atlas shrugged. every time i start reading that book i lose interest and have to put it down for a few months. i’ve heard from quite a few people that it’s a great book but for the life of me i can’t get through it.
what are you currently reading? — i have an up to date indicator at the left of this page, but for historical sake i’m current reading a few books at once (a train, before bed, and a change of pace book). star-hopping, the demon-haunted world, fats that heal, fats that kill (in order by type)

next to astronomy and biking i’d have to say that reading is one of my favorite hobbies. i was pleasantly surprised to partake in this weeks friday five.

better late than never, this weeks friday five.

explain why you started to journal/blog. — i started a web log of sorts back when i was in college to just mess around on the internet. after college i used it as a way to talk to family and friends as well as a place to vent. i’m often plagued with undercurrents of anger and frustration about events and ideals that i find myself needing to write down somewhere, thus my weblog is my canvas.
do people you interact with day to day or family members know about your journal/blog? why or why not? — yes to both, because they either want to see what i’m up to or are just curious about my life in some way.
do you have a theme for your journal/blog? — any of the going ons in my life that i want to write down.
what direction would you like to have your journal/blog go in over the next year? — open honest opinions by yours truly, information to help others with fitness, and happenings in my life.
pimp five of your favorite journals/blogs. — eric, martie, reactuate, dome news, evhead

sorry i didn’t get it in on friday. life doesn’t always afford me the time to post as often as i’d like. plus there is the fact that i’m absent minded.

here’s this weeks friday five, thanks again for the link martie, sorry i forgot last week. amy and i decided to take this one together this week.

what did you have for breakfast this morning? if you didn’t have breakfast, why not? — amy (fiance) had frosted mini wheats cereal and 1% milk, i had a myoplex shake with some udo’s multiblend oil.
what’s your favorite cereal? — amy likes frosted mini wheats and i enjoy cinnamon life cereal.
how often do you eat out? do you want that to change? — amy eats out at lunch sometimes as do i. on the weekend we usually eat out on saturday since that’s my freeday and then sometimes on sunday as well. it just depends on what we’re doing. i wouldn’t say that we want it to change, when we do eat out it’s pretty healthy so we’re happy with our current allotment of eating out.
what do you plan on having for dinner tonight? got a recipe for that? — i came home tonight to a message from my sweetie (amy) to tell me to get comfortable and come into the family room. there waiting for me on the floor was a mini picnic, dinner was made (pasta, chicken, sauce, and wine), and she was looking at me with a great big “i love you” smile on her beautiful face.
what’s your favorite restaurant? why? — amy and i both enjoy a really good local restaurant called omegas. we usually go there for breakfast on my freeday, which is tomorrow morning so that’s all the better =)

i’ll try to get next weeks in on time.

i found a link to the friday five over at marties’ weblog and figured that i’d give it a shot.

as a child, who was your favorite superhero/heroine? why? — i’ve had quite a few since i was into comic books a lot. if i had to choose one though i’d have to say hawkeye. i think it was because he was actually human, mortal, and was still a bad-ass.
what was one thing you always wanted as a child but never got? — honestly, i can’t think of anything. my parents gave us a lot as kids.
what’s the furthest from home you’ve been? — zurich switzerland for training.
what’s one thing you’ve always wanted to learn but haven’t yet? — art … i’ve always wanted to be more artistic than i am. i do try sometimes, but i don’t think i have it in me. maybe that’s why i’m marrying someone who is very artistic.
what are your plans for the weekend? — wedding stuff, relaxing, finishing up my taxes, researching new workouts for next week, and hanging out with amy.
