to timbuk2 and beyond

while surfing the web this evening i ran across this bag store called timbuk2, thanks for the link michael. they make a line of messenger bags that you can custom build to meet your needs. i just got a laptop for work and the bag they gave be sucks. i can’t carry anything other than the computer, a few magazines, and a few small things … no lunch, water bottle, or dare i say it … a book. it’s ridiculous. anyhow, bitching aside, these bags look sweet.

i priced out the guapo with all of the extras i wanted and it came to $147 dollars. those of you who know me know i prefer quality over low priced crap. that said, this bag has a lifetime warranty, it’s made in america, and with over 237 million messenger bags made can they be that bad? something tells me that last part is a bit of creative writing, aka fiction. nevertheless these bags look great. anyone every used one? own one? i’d love to hear about them.

hi again! everything is going well here in glendale heights illinois. the weather is hot, humid, and really annoying. we aren’t getting enough rain and i’ve lost power twice now. once a few weeks back for 4 hours and once this morning for 5 minutes. kind of annoying, and it wasn’t even the hottest point of the day.

my brother and christina were in town this past weekend. we had a really good time. we all got together with some other friends and saw austin powers in goldmember. i actually laughed a lot in this movie. it had a ton of toilet humor but it was a refreshing change from all of the other movies in theaters right now. i was surprised to see that it made $71 million dollars in it’s first weekend. not so shabby for a shagadelic secret agent.

we also spent time shopping, talking, and got in a round of putt-putt golf. guess who won? hehehe, yea i had to put that in here. i beat em all … i was finally able to put 8 years of golf to good use. i haven’t played a real round of golf in about 4 years, how sad. maybe next season.

all in all i think they had a fun time. we weren’t able to go downtown but next time we will plan a day there instead of just trying to get down there in the evening.

i’m back on track this week, getting my workouts and food in. last week i was only able to get the food right, excluding the weekend where i didn’t do anything right. anyhow, i am on track now. i had a killer upper body workout yesterday and today i’m doing cardio when i get home from work.

lance armstrong won his 4th tour de france this past sunday. my fantasy tour team did crappy. i ended up 580th overall, talk about sad. that week off and the shitty interface they had to the game ruined my placing. who ever heard of resetting your team every night. you would think they would carry over the previous days team settings you made. no, they decided to rewrite user expectations 101. anyhow, maybe next year i can find a better fantasy site to play on. congratulations are in order for lance however.

hello all … well amy and i made it back from san francisco safely. it was a really good time and the weather was perfect. it was a bit foggy and cool on some of the days in the bay area but in sonoma and nappa is was picture perfect.

while we were there we did a ton of different things. we went to wine country, did an afternoon tour of the city, went to alcatraz, went to the wedding, and did a ton of shopping. we took 4 rolls of film. i’ll try and get em up here when they get them back from being developed.

the wedding was really nice. it was short and to the point. the captain of the boat did the ceremony and then when it was over we sailed around the bay for about 3.5 hours. we went under the golden gate, around a few of the islands including alcatraz, and then under the bay bridge. should have some nice pics of that.

while we were out there we went on one of those wine tours and did some tasting. we picked up some nice bottles of wine that we both enjoyed. it is such a night and day difference between premium wine and lower end wine. my mouth was thoroughly enjoying it. we were able to taste the difference between different years of the same wine as well as different aged vines used to create the same wine. i could hardly believe it but it was extremely noticeable. the older vines (100 years) tasted remarkable better then the younger vines (60 years). on the tour there was a slight driving incident where i almost went through the front of the van but otherwise it was uneventful and extremely relaxing. i would gladly go out there again and could easily spend a week in wine country.

we ate reasonably good last week. no not workout healthy but we didn’t really go overboard at all. with all of the walking i didn’t feel bad eating the way we ate. i was amazingly tired the first two days of the week and was unable to get my workouts in but i ate well. this morning i got in my cardio. no worries, i am on track, just getting caught up with my sleep is taking longer than expected. look for some kick ass workouts next week.

my fantasy tour team is doing less than good. i went from averaging 350’ish place to around 500’ish. during vacation i wasn’t paying as much attention to the racers standings as much as i should have. that and after today 3 of my 15 riders have dropped out of the race. now all i have to work with are 12 riders of which 4 are sprinters. so now i’m stuck sticking sprinters in climbing stages, arg. lance is doing well however. after today he has a 7 minute lead on his closes rival. for more info on the tour check out velonews tour coverage or cycling news tour coverage.

no new news on the wedding.

ellis and christina are coming into town for a gaming conference for my brother. we plan on meeting up with them a few times for dinner and other things. amy and i picked up some tickets to see the new austin powers flick at the “premium” theater. sounds yuppy doesn’t it.

that’s all for now.

on wednesday amy and i are going on vacation to san francisco. we’re headed out there for a wedding but plan on spending some time to ourselves on a winery tour and other things. we’re really looking forward to the time off.

i’m kicking ass on my workouts and weight loss again. i started 5 weeks ago at 405 and just weighed in on saturday at 384. that means that in 5 weeks i’ve lost 21 pounds. not to shabby … i’ve only missed a few workouts and a few meals. otherwise i’m pretty hardcore. i plan on creating a new timeline page again when i get back from vacation. i’m not going to focus on it as much as in the past and let it take over my goals but i really want to keep track of my progress. so, look for that to come again soon.

the tour de france is ongoing right now for those that are interested. lot’s of biking fun for everyone. my fantasy team is in 282nd place out of 1300 teams. not to shabby but i can do better.

amy and i have been biking a bit recently. we were out on the trails today actually … my bike’s front derailleur was acting up. since they used new cables on the new frame there is some stretching going on which is causing my shifters to not work as expected. after a few adjustments by the bike mechanic it was working perfectly.

job is going well, doing some interesting new things. two more people left divine and came to cme. rumor has it that two more people are leaving the old team we well. not to come to cme, but they are leaving. i think that will leave 6 or less of the team left, pretty sad. divine has really screwed themselves this time … but what else if new with them. their stock is down 84% for the year including a reverse 25 - 1 stock split.

i still have another 9 - 10 months to go before i get my telescope. i haven’t been out viewing much recently because we have been so busy. i hope to get out soon with the club. we have an event in wisconsin in early august i hope to attend with amy, we’ve gotta break out the tent and sleeping bags.

amy took her gre this weekend. she kicked ass … improving her verbal, analytical, and quantitative scores by almost 100 each over the last time she took it. now she has to keep up her volunteering and get her application together for the fall. i’ll keep you all updated with her progress. for those of you who don’t know, she is applying to physician assistant school for next year.

the wedding planning is going well. we now have a hall, church, and dj and are really close on a photographer, florist, and a priest. again, the date is may 2nd 2003. that’s a friday for those of you that were wondering. anyhow, more on that in the future as more information is obtained.

i’m well into week 3 on body for life and i feel amazing. i’ve got killer energy, i’m focused on my goals, i sleep soundly, and i’m amazingly focused all throughout the day. in short i’ve never been better.

i started a fantasy tour de france game recently. i’ll post my team when i decide on it. in short you pick 15 riders and choose 9 to ride each day. you earn points based on how them place on any given day. the person with the most points at the end win’s some nice prizes. i figured it would be fun since i’ll be watching it a lot anyhow. it’s my summer hobby … cycling that is. both participating and watching.

i’m working on getting some hotel discounts for those that are planning on attending our wedding. we plan on sending out an announcement soon so people can plan the trip, set up reservations, etc etc. look for more on that soon, including a web site for wedding information.

i recently moved all of my domains to new servers. i will now be able to better support them including adding new features. gone are the days of linux on an ancient cobalt qube. i’m now on a wintel box running iis with a soon to arrive isapi connection to tomcat 4.1. then soon to follow that look for a redesigned java enabled site. woohoooo ….

did i mention that i love registerfly and their configurable dns. they also have a extremely affordable $9.95 per year domain registration fee. it easily beats network solutions crappy service and astronomical rates.

i’m headed to michigan for amy’s grandmothers family reunion this holiday weekend. it looks to be fun, and we may even meet up with my dad and kelly.

well today is the day. like my little java program said yesterday, for those of you that understood it, today i’m kicking ass and taking names. amy and i are going to my gym to work out and use the pool afterwards. i’ve got all my meals and everything planned out so wish me luck. i’ll let you know how it’s going as i progress to being on the right track again.

for a few shots of someone who already beat this obesity thing i suggest you check out one phat man. he used to post journals every day. lately though he had a small surgery and hasn’t been up to it.

not sure if i put it up here or not, don’t see it … anyhow, last weekend or so i put in my order for a portaball telescope. now i just have to wait 10+ months to get it. the countdown has begun.

in case you missed it, there was an eclipse in the sky this past monday. it was to cloudy here to see anything.
